Worcester Warriors 50 Rotherham Titans 10
The difference in class between clubs in the English Premiership and the Championship was exposed last night when Rotherham were beaten by eight tries to two in their fourth pre-season game.
After a disappointing first half by the Titans who let in five tries as Worcester led by 31-0, Rotherham improved considerably after the interval to score two tries by forwards Rory Pitman and Michael Noone. Worcester, though, continued to show their superiority and went on to add three more tries, but while Rotherham were beaten by a substantial margin, coach Andre Bester will be delighted that his squad competed well and were totally committed.
Two of Worcester’s tries were scored by the former Rotherham forward Semisi Taulava whose power at times was unstoppable.
But Rotherham failed to cope with Worcester’s driving maul which disrupted the Titans’ pack and defence.
Rotherham’s half backs, Garry Law and Charlie Mulchrone, both delivered high quality displays which promised well.
Rotherham have one more friendly remaining, at another Premiership side Saracens on Sunday.
