ROTHERHAM Titans assistant coach Ben Wade has hailed the arrivals of Laurence Pearce and Joel Gill.
The promising backs joined the Clifton Lane outfit last week to take the club’s summer recruitment drive to 17 during the closed season.
Both Pearce and Gill played instrumental roles in the Yorkshire under 20 side which won the 2010 National Under 20 County Champions tournament at Twickenham.
Gill, who has moved from Wharfedale, scored Yorkshire’s last try of the game, smashing through under the sticks as they came through 15-13 winners over Gloucestershire. The 21-year-old plays as a centre but can also fill in at scrum-half.
Of capturing Gill, Wade said: “Joel is a young talent coming through; he’s played National One with Wharfedale and had a very good season with them.
“He’s a very powerful, strong boy with lots of pace and during pre-season he’ll have the opportunity to show us what he can do and we are looking forward to working with him.”
Hot prospect Pearce adds pace, power and good handling skills to the Titans backline. Weighing 19 stone and 6ft 3ins tall, Pearce, aged 21, joins from Hull RUFC having had spells at Hull FC and York City Knights.
Wade said: “Laurence has played for Hull RUFC and has had a spell in Rugby League and I believe he’s a terrific young prospect who will do well at Clifton Lane.
“We believe we can get a lot out of Laurence on the wing, he’s got the pace, the power and the skill level to do really well there.”
Titans coach Andre Bester is expected to confirm several more new signings over the coming weeks ahead of the 2012/13 season.
