Rotherham prop Rob O’Donnell, who made a successful return from his serious ankle injury during the mid-week British and Irish Cup match at Doncaster, makes his Championship de against Bristol tomorrow at Clifton Lane.
O’Donnell, out of action for almost five months since he was stretchered off against Nottingham in September, had in a few league games before injury established himself as one of the Titans’ top forwards.
Tall and powerful, the former Sale Sharks player has been badly missed; not only is O’Donnell a first class scrummager, but he is also a dangerous attacker and hard to tackle because of his size and strength.
Now that Rotherham are guaranteed a place in the promotion play-offs because they will finish in the top eight of the Championship, O’Donnell’s return and presence in the team will boost their chances of making progress.
He will be keen to start against Bristol, who are one place below Rotherham, in seventh place.
Rotherham will be overtaken if they lose to Bristol. But assuming Titans win and finish seventh, Andre Bester’s side will avoid Championship leaders Worcester.
