SHEFFIELD Tigers will host Chester on Saturday in a play-off to decide who will gain promotion to National 2 after the Dore Moor side recorded a 52-14 victory at Scunthorpe in their final regular season match. Tigers’ win means they climb above Longton into second spot by virtue of a greater number of wins.

Full-back Jon Feeley scored a hat-trick of tries, the first coming after 19 minutes which stand-off Jonny West converted, as he did following prop Sam Lockwood’s 25th minute effort. And Feeley’s second was again improved by West on 38 minutes.

Second row Gregor Hayter touched down shortly in the second half and West converted it to put Tigers 28-0 ahead. Left winger Callum Mackenzie touched down on 50 minutes, and five minutes later Feeley scored his third, West converting to make it 40-0. Winger Gareth Morley touched down for Tigers on 65 minutes and nine minutes later John Buchanan added another which West.

n Sheffield secured promotion into North One East after a 17-18 victory at Darlington in their play-off. Stand-off Donal Collins kicked an early penalty, but hosts Darlington scored a try to take a narrow lead at half time.

Scrum-half Matt Poste re-took the lead for Sheffield with a 46th minute try which Collins converted, but their lead lasted just two minutes with Darlington’s pack driving over for a try, Nick Baldwin converting for a 12-10 lead to the home side.

Another driving maul produced a third try for Darlington, but a 66th minute penalty from Collins narrowed the gap to 17-13, and when prop Tom Marples touched down five minutes from time, Sheffield took the lead and ensured their passage to promotion.

n Barnsley emerged 45-36 victors from their Yorkshire 2 clash with Ripon. Two tries from No 8 David Reed ensured they were only 20-21 behind at the break. But they stepped up a gear, with winger Darryl Cheetham also scoring two tries. Others came from Josh Smith, Todd Cheetham and Robert Jeffrey, while Andrew Appleyard kicked two conversions and two penalties.
