Local rivals set for bumper gate in televised showdown

The South Yorkshire derby between Doncaster Knights and Rotherham Titans at Castle Park a week on Saturday is expected to attract a crowd of 2,500 even though the Championship clash is being broadcast live on Sky.
Officials at Doncaster are predicting that the attendance will be bigger than the crowd of 2,100 which watched the game against Leeds Carnegie at Castle Park on Boxing Day.
The TV company’s decision to cover the South Yorkshire derby is an excellent opportunity for both clubs to sell and promote themselves and to attract new players.
Meanwhile, Rotherham, sixth in the Championship and heading towards the promotion play-offs, are injury free for the first time in several months with Scottish lock forward Neale Patrick and back row forward Talite Vaioleti, making successful comebacks at Bristol recently.
Saturday’s frozen off home game with Cornish Pirates has been rearranged for next Saturday (2pm).
As coach Andre Bester prepares Titans for the promotion drive, his squad has been strengthened by an agreement with Premiership giants, Leicester Tigers, who have agreed a loan deal allowing flanker Tom Armes to become a dual registered player.
His first team appearances have been restricted at Welford Road because of severe competition.
Bester is pleased how new scrum half, 25-year-old South African Dale Farnham, has settled in at Clifton Lane.
