CLIVE Griffiths insists today’s British & Irish Cup clash at Melrose is not a dead rubber for Doncaster Knights.
Knights’ director of rugby has handed starts to local lads Jack Bergmanas and Tomas Francis against the Scottish Premiership side.
Both sides are unable to progress to the knock out stages but Griffiths says there is still plenty to play for ahead of next weekend’s vital Championship basement battle against London Scottish.
Griffiths said: “It won’t be a dead rubber for the players that are out there.
“It’s an important game in the grand scheme of things and with what we’re trying to do.
“We won’t be risking anyone before the London Scottish game because that’s when the season really starts.
“We’re getting competition for places. We’ll see who gets the shirt for the Scottish game.”
