LAURENCE Pearce won’t forget his Sheffield Tigers debut in a hurry.
The number eight bagged a try and delivered a man of the match as they clinched a superb come-from-behind 36-13 home win over Westoe in National Two North.
Along with Pearce, centre Samir Tahraoui and right wing Mike Doneghan also made their first appearances for the Dore Moor based club.
It was actually Westoe who dominated early on, with two penalties from stand-off Matthew Mellish putting the visitors in charge.
However, Tigers hit back two minutes before the interval, as full-back Peter Swatkins crossed for a converted try after great play from Pearce and Jamie Broadley.
After the re-start, the rampant Tigers scored four unanswered tries in a breathtaking 13-minute spell to underline their superiority. Doneghan (2), Pearce and second-row Richard Joel crossed to help the Tigers seal a bonus try point. There was also a further effort from Liam Wallace as they tightened their grip on sixth position ahead of a trip to lowly Birmingham & Solihull this Saturday.
An inspired display from Chris Dale helped Sheffield comprehensively beat Durham City 44-14 in North One East. Dale scored three of their seven tries to keep the team in joint third. They are two points adrift of second-placed Wheatley Hills, who lost 17-12 at Darlington, and trail league leaders Beverley by 16.
