Knights out to settle a score

.

.

DONCASTER Knights’ boss Brett Davey says his players will need little or no motivation ahead of tonight’s rearranged Championship clash against Nottingham at Meadow Lane (7.45pm).

Davey says feelings are still running high in the Doncaster camp after they made a wasted journey to Meadow Lane last month for a game which was never going to go ahead in his opinion.

“The game should have been called off before we set off,” said Davey. “It was obvious when we got down there that the pitch was unplayable, even though we did agree to give it until 15 minutes before the scheduled start.

“I said at the time that I wasn’t happy.”

Nottingham would climb above the seventh-placed Knights were they to complete the double over the Castle Park side, but Davey. who still entertains hopes of a top-five finish, feels that his side are in the form to avenge their home defeat.

“We beat second-placed Bedford and picked up a bonus point, and we did the same to Esher in our last game, so our confidence is high and I’m pleased with how we’ve been playing,” he said.

“Meadow Lane is never an easy place but if we let the physicality of the game take care of itself, and we are clinical in what we do, then we’ll be in with a chance.”

Tonight’s is the first of a testing two-games-in-four-days spell but Davey says he will not be keeping an eye on Saturday’s televised derby against Rotherham Titans at Castle Park.

“We are taking a very strong side to Nottingham and if players play well then they’ll keep their jersey for the Rotherham game,” said the Welshman.

“If they don’t perform then the likely consquence will be that someone will take their place. We’ll be picking pretty much our strongest side from now on in and just bringing in one or two players along the way.”
