Doncaster Knights director of rugby Clive Griffiths admits his side cannot afford any more injuries as they prepare for a hat-trick of fixtures that could make or break their season – startingtomorrow at Richmond.
Griffiths’ men made it five SSE National League One victories from as many games last weekend as they put Fylde to the sword 29-24, bringing their points tally to a maximum 25 in the process.
But the victory was somewhat tainted with the news that an already injury-ravaged Knights squad was left walking a little more wounded with Jack Cosgrove (back), Dougie Flockhart and Chris Hallam both knee) all picking up knocks.
Add these three names to already long-term absentees Tom Davies, Ross Davies and Chris Walker and it’s easy to see why Griffiths is keen to bring in some reinforcements.
With players dropping like flies an already difficult trip to Richmond looks that little bit tougher, while games against Loughborough Students and Henley make for a tricky month.
But with Griffiths keen for the Knights to stay unbeaten through October, the Welshman is not about to use that as an excuse.
“We didn’t play our best against Fylde but we still came away with a win and a bonus point so I was happy,” he said.
“The downside is we picked up three bad inju ries.”
