Rotherham Titans are expecting to play in front of more than 3,000 fans tomorrow when they take on Doncaster Knights in a derby at Castle Park.

The clash, which will attract Doncaster’s biggest attendance of the Championship season so far, kicks off just after noon and is being broadcast live by Sky Sport. With both sides having lost in the league this week in rearranged games. Rotherham lost at home on Monday to Cornish Pirates by 19-14 and then Doncaster were beaten 40-14 at Meadow Lane by Nottingham on Wednesday, they need to rediscover some form with the promotion play-offs looming.

A look at the Championship table shows that little separates the clubs, so it may be another close affair: the Titans have dropped to seventh and are on 53 points, whereas Doncaster are now eighth on 49 points.

Rotherham’s coach Andre Bester may make the odd change to the squad which lost on Monday to Cornish Pirates, but the club’s leading try scorer, Irish flanker Robin Copeland who now has 11 tries in the league, will start having fully recovered from a virus.

Not surprisingly, Copeland’s success this season has attracted the attention of several Premiership clubs, including Worcester Warriors whose forwards’ coach Phil Davies travelled to Clifton Lane on Monday to assess the quality of the Irish forward and Rotherham’s number eight, Semisi Taulava.

Rotherham will require both to be at the top of their game if Titans are to return to form having been beaten twice in succession in the Championship by Bristol and then Pirates.

Bester’s priority now is to make sure that Rotherham make progress in the promotion play-offs now that the first stage of the league season is almost finished.

The Titans have only two matches left: against Doncaster and then London Scottish, but having lost both their recent Championship games, many fans believe the side has lost its momentum and that winning form can’t be turned on like water which is why they are worried about the team’s prospects tomorrow.
