Doncaster Knights top points scorer Dougie Flockhart is set to return to action in the club’s final league game of the season at London Welsh on Saturday.

The goal-kicking wing/full-back has been sidelined since tearing a bicep, which needed surgery, during a game at Castle Park earlier in the year.

The Scot was the top points scorer in the Championship prior to his injury with a tally 158 points.

He will return to action in second place behind Bristol’s former Wales and British Lions star Gavin Henson.

Flanker Latu Makaafi, who went into the game in second place, kept his hopes of finishing the Championship’s top try-scorer alive with his 17th league touchdown of the season in Saturday’s win over Bedford.

Makaafi was one of four injured players to return to action against the Blues, including No 8 Ollie Stedman.

All came through without any problems, though prop Colin Quigley had to deal a painful blister.

Director of rugby Clive Griffiths told the Star that the rest of the players came through the game unscathed - including scrum-half Michael Heaney who suffered what looked to be a bad knock at the time in the second half.

But he admitted that fly-half Simon Humberstone, who has suffered an injury-hit debut campaign at Castle Park, was unlikely to be available before the end of the season.

“Fortunately we’ve got Ollie Bryant on loan from Leicester Tigers as cover (for Declan Cusack) and all the other loan players we’ve used will all be available for selection should we need them in the forthcoming play-offs,” said the Welshman.
