Michael Hills has been appointed as Doncaster Knights’ new on-field captain for the 2014/15 season.
Local lad Hills joined his hometown team from London Welsh last summer and quickly became an integral part of last season’s National One title winning team.
Previous incumbent Matt Challinor becomes club captain.
Director of rugby Clive Griffiths said: “Chally has had two high pressure seasons at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of a relegation battle and a promotion contest.
“In that time has never ever failed to produce on the field and has led by example.
“However, we feel that with the pressure of going back into higher standard of competition we will need Chall to produce that extra one per cent within his game and we think that by taking the burden of on field captaincy away it will free him to do that.
“He is still involved in the decision processes concerning the team on and off the field. I have spoken with him about that and he is comfortable with it.
“Michael is comfortable with his new role and it is a seamless transition.”
