A CONTROVERSIAL try by Wath deep into first half stoppage-time helped sentence Doncaster Phoenix to a 19-13 Yorkshire League Division Three defeat at Castle Park.

Prior to Wath’s try - Phoenix claiming the visitors should have been penalised in the build-up - they had led 6-0 courtesy of two Ben Millar penalties.

Wath opened up a 19-6 lead after the break before a well-worked converted try by centre Deakin set up a tense finish.

Thorne battled out a dour 6-6 Division Three draw against Modernians. Adwick slumped to a 36-14 Division Five defeat at Garforth, Rossington lost 24-7 against Wensleydale.
