Davey shrugs off fixture glut worries

.

DONCASTER Knights’ boss Brett Davey is not worried that a fixture glut could have an adverse affect on the Castle Park club’s Championship Promotion Play-Off prospects.

Starting with Wednesday’s rearranged game against Nottingham, Knights could be forced to play four games - three of them away - in 11 days.

“It’s not an ideal situation but because we’ve got a lot of fit players we’ll be able to move a few about so the chances of picking up injuries through fatigue will be small,” he said.

“You risk picking up injuries in any game because rugby is a physical sport, but providing we do don’t suffer anything serious we’ll go into next month’s play-offs more or less where we planned to be.

“We want to adapt our style over the next two weeks ready for the play-offs and if we can we’ll be in a good position.”

Despite seeing his squad miss out on back-to-back games, Davey did not bring the players in for extra training at the weekend.

“We gave the players time off, though they had personal programmes to follow, and they just trained on Friday indoors at The Dome,” he said.

“They’ll be in tomorrow and we’ll have a full day going through things ahead of the Nottingham game.”
