Several of Rotherham’s new signings make their debuts for the Titans at Headingley tonight against Leeds Carnegie in the Yorkshire derby as the Clifton Lane club begins its campaign in the British and Irish Cup.
Titans’ coach, Andre Bester, has decided to rest several regular first team players who will return for the Championship clash against league leaders Bedford at Clifton Lane on Saturday.
However, as he believes in rotating players and offering first team squad players the chance to grab an opportunity, Bester has brought in three new players into the back line - centre Tom Foden and half backs Roger Kirkwood and Dave Marshall. In the pack hooker Ross White, lock Barnie Maddison and the back row trio of Ross Noonan, Joe Dickinson and Carl Kirwan are given the chance to impress.
“The British and Irish Cup has more importance than in previous years because it’s more about the development of players,” says Bester. “As games are going to be played in mid-week, you have to carry a bigger squad and I believe we have a strong enough squad to compete well in this competition,” Bester added.
