STOCKSBRIDGE could do with a sporting shot in the arm, at the moment, writes Bob Westerdale.

With suggestions that the local sports centre may close and their non-league football team third from the bottom of the League, good news is thin on the ground.

Yet Stocksbridge RUFC is bucking the trend. They are top of Yorkshire 5 after winning 10 of 11 matches.

But because they don’t have a League match this weekend, their place is under threat. Doncaster Amateurs have a derby with third place Rotherham Clifton - so this is an interesting division to keep their eye on.

Further up the pyramid, Sheffield Tigers vist Birmingham & Solihull in National League 2 North. Tigers are sixth, having beaten Westoe 36-13, last Saturday, ending a run of five straight losses. In North One East, Sheffield hope to heap more misery on Darlington, who have conceded more points than any other team.

Sheffield are two points behind second placed Wheatley Hills, who take on mid-table Northern.

Other fixtures incl: Dinnington v Barnsley, Wath v Old Brodliens, Moortown v Doncaster Pheonix, Ripon v Sheffield Medicals. Rotherham Phoenix v Bramley. Thornesians v Burley. Halifax Vandals Mosborough.
