TALKING SPORT - Rovers boss Shaun would do capital job at Fulham

DONCASTER Rovers' fans will no doubt be keeping an eye on developments at Craven Cottage, where Premier Division Fulham are looking for a new boss following Roy Hodgson's move to Liverpool.

O'Driscoll made 148 appearances for the club between 1979 and 1984, meaning that he would be better known to Fulham fans were he to get the job than he was when he took over at Rovers four years ago.

Were O'Driscoll to be approached, one would assume that he would be interested - given the fact that he was prepared to speak to Burnley last season - and that the club would not stand in his way,

But there is no doubt that they would be loathe to lose him.

At this moment in time it is all press speculation.

Even if he were to be a serious contender he would come up against some big hitters who boast top-flight experience.

Yet for my money I would put him up there with the likely front runners.

I certainly feel that O'Driscoll, and his able No 2 Richard O'Kelly, would be up to the job of managing the London side.

And even if nothing develops on this occasion I am pleased for O'Driscoll -a manager I have always admired - that he is finally being linked with top jobs.

Talking of managers I admire, what a great job Tony Miller is doing at the Dons,

But for a disastrous start, when Miller was continually struggling to field a competitive side due to injuries, the Dons could be be challenging for a top-four spot.

They are currently playing as well as anyone in the division - except for the top two - and they recently run them both close.

They must be in with an outside chance of making the play-offs.

Miller has put together a good young team capable of playing some attractive rugby.

They might have left themselves just a little too much to do this season, but if the club can keep the squad together next season then their prospects would indeed be bright.

As someone, along with others, who campaigned long and hard for decent athletics facilities in the town, I take great satisfaction in the success the Doncaster Athletic Club continues to enjoy,

I always argued that the town had some good athletic talent - then being lost to rival clubs with better facilities.

But even I have been surprised at the depth of the talent locally. The club's success reflects well on athletes and coaches alike.
