But Eagles, with five wins from seven going into the game, failed to halt the dominance of their opponents on home soil, as the French side continued their unbeaten home run in the Kingstone Press Championship.

But Eagles again gave a good account of themselves, but they were always playing catch-up against their high-flying opponents.

Director of rugby Mark Aston gave a debut to new signing Paddy Flynn at centre, whilst Elliot Minchella returned from injury to take his place in the halves.

The home side drew first blood with ex-Eagles loanee Stan Robin crossing after being found by Mark Kheirallah, who then also kicked the extras.

Eagles quickly responded with a try own through Kyle Trout and Simon Brown slotted the conversion to level.

Kane Bentley restored the home side’s advantage with a brilliant try, and Kheirallah converted.

Kheirallah then opted to kick shortly after when the Eagles conceded a penalty which pushed the hosts eight points in front.

Sebastien Planas’ converted try put the hosts firmly in control, and then Robin nailed his second score after being fed by Tony Maurel. Kheirallah converted.

Eagles improved after the break and were given a lifeline when Garry Lo’s incisive break resulted in a try, and Brown added the two.

But hopes faded when Bastien Candy crossed and Kheirallah again converted.

Debutant Flynn scrambled over for Eagles, but Brown missed a tough conversion.

Planas’ second converted score ended any faint hopes for Aston’s side, and Kuni Minga’s try, converted by Kheirallah rxtended the lead.

Eagles didn’t give in as Lo scored his second try, Brown failing with the extras. A Kheirallah drop goal ended the scoring.

Next weekend Eagles take on Swinton Lions at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road in the Summer Bash.
