Sheffield Eagles want to start consistent run with a win against Swinton Lions

Eagles were again competitive against unbeaten Hull KR last weekend, going into the interval in touch with their opponents.

But, similar to their recent visit in the league at the start of this month, the hosts ran away with it in the second half, booking their place in the fifth round of the Challenge Cup.

Aston, who also took heart from parts of his side’s showing in their last league meeting with Featherstone, is now looking for a more consistent display ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Swinton, but how close are his side to stringing together a 60 to 80 minute performance?

“That’s the million dollar question” Aston said. “We need to make sure that there’s something to build on because we have a big few weeks coming up. We have Swinton who are down there with us and we need to find a way to get some points in the bank. We are looking to build on what we did against Featherstone, and take the good points from our recent performances to find consistent displays.”

Through injury and suspension, Eagles have struggled for a consistent line-up all season, which was underlined with loan signings Reece Dean and Liam Johnson both ineligible for the cup defeat. Earlier in the campaign the likes of Jordan Cox and Mark Mexico have been missing too.

“We could do with a few more faces,” Aston added.

“Competition for places is key for any side. Whether we get that from Leigh or whether we can fetch any more players in, let’s see on that.

“That would be an added bonus to get some more bodies for next week.

“There is some light at the end of the tunnel. We are still doing things wrong in certain areas, but our attitude and commitment is good. Getting togetherness at short notice is a challenge, but now we are pulling it together.”
