Life on the road was hard when Sheffield Eagles were last without a home base 24 years ago.
The club faces that again if, as coach Mark Aston fears, they are forced out of Sheffield following the closure of Don Valley Stadium.
“It was difficult, you never got the home factor it was always like playing an away game,” said Aston (pictured) who was an Eagles’ player that season. “When you have a ground you get used to it and it matters. We have gone through the league without losing a home game this year.”
In 1989-90 the Eagles split their home fixtures between Bramall Lane, Hillsborough and five other grounds - winning only six ‘home’ games and lost £100,000.
The final ever game at Don Valley will be on Sunday with the Eagles still uncertain where ‘home’ will be in 2014.
