Sheffield Eagles will be hoping for an instant return on their long-term investment in Kyle Briggs.

The 26-year-old, signed on a two-and-a-half year deal from Featherstone Rovers, is set to make his debut against North Wales Crusaders at Owlerton Stadium on Sunday (kick-off 2pm).

Eagles need Briggs to help spark a revival after four straight defeats and only two wins at home in the league.

Coach Mark Aston has to decide where he will be most effective at half-back or at loose-forward.

Briggs has already shown he can ‘play’ the tight Owlerton pitch scoring a try and kicking six goals from stand-off in Rovers’ win in May.

“Kyle has a bit of utility – he can play six or at 13, we’ll have to see what’s best,” said Aston.

Hooker Andrew Henderson will join London Broncos as assistant coach to Joe Grima at the end of the season.

Scottish international Henderson, 35, signed for the Eagles in 2010 and has combined playing with youth development work. He helped the Eagles to win two Championship Grand Finals.

Aston said: “Hendo has been a massive part of Sheffield Eagles and we’re sorry to see him go.”
