Sheffield Eagles must learn to love their home from home in Wakefield

The Eagles slipped to a fourth consecutive loss at the weekend as their worrying slide continued after a promising start to the 2017 campaign.

Mark Aston’s side again failed to make their current residency at the Beaumont Legal Stadium a fortress, as they shipped over 40 points.

If the Eagles are to turn around their unsteady start to the campaign, Aston believes they have to learn to make better use of their temporary home.

“The key to your success is home form,” Aston said. “We had a great performance against Toulouse on home soil but that stands for nothing if we don’t find a way to keep it up. We needed to back that performance up consistently and find a way to make it difficult for teams at Belle Vue.”

Similar to their recent game against Hull Kingston Rovers, Eagles made a bright start and matched their lofty opponents in the opening quarter.

New signing Reece Dean made a blistering start to life with the Eagles by scoring the opening try, but they failed to press home their advantage.

Eagles narrowly avoided shipping 50 points for the third week running, but that’s no comfort to Aston whose side take a break from league action next weekend.

“It’s all down to the mental toughness and defence” Aston added. The last time we won here we weren’t defensively sound all the time but we found a way to stop the try - at times we were desperate. That is what we need to show more consistently because there will be times when we have bad patches, we need to be more resilient.”
