Sheffield Eagles are set to make a decision on whether to let loan duo Dave Hewitt and Jack Blagbrough stay with fellow Kingstone Press Championship side Oldham.
The duo have been with the Roughyeds since the middle of June after Eagles director of rugby Mark Aston allowed them to move to Bower Fold in search of regular first team action.
With the arrivals of Nathan Chappell, Thibaut Margalet and Stan Robin to Bawtry Road, Hewitt and Blagbrough found themselves down the pecking order.
But with the Championship Shield set to get underway this weekend Aston may bring the duo back into the Eagles’ flock, as he looks to have all options available ahead of Sunday’s clash with Halifax at The Shay.
“There is a big decision to be made early this week about whether to bring Jack and Dave back,” Aston told The Star.
“I am all about giving players the opportunity to go out and play, but we need to think about Sheffield Eagles at this stage of the season.
“We have got some strength in depth, there is competition for places here, so we will have to decideon Monday or Tuesday about what we want to do.”
Both Hewitt and Blagbrough have proved a hit in Lancashire, with Oldham coach Scott Naylor keen to extend their stay.
The decision must be made this week, once the duo have played for Oldham in the Championship Shield then they cannot come back and play for the Eagles.
Aston must now weigh up if their stay with the Roughyeds could be counter productive to his own side’s chances of firstly, confirming their Championship status, and then potentially claiming the Championship Shield.
“The feedback is that Dave has done really well, and Blaggers scored a try against Bradford last week,” Aston added.
“As far as I am aware they are happy with them, and they want to keep them.”
