Tony Tonks is set for a return to the Sheffield Eagles squad for the top-of-the-table clash at Bradford Bulls on Sunday.

The prop has missed out on the last two games against Hull FC and Halifax after receiving a two-game ban from the RFL for striking Featherstone’s Ian Hardman. He has been forced to watch from the sidelines as the Eagles returned to winning ways last weekend, but is now raring to go. “It has been very frustrating but I’ve put it to the back of my mind, I’ve trained hard and concentrated on the things I need to work on,” said the 30-year-old. “I’ve had what has been like a two week pre-season, because there are a few areas that I need to clean up on, and the two week gap has given me that opportunity. Playing against Bradford is something you look forward to, my old coach Karl Harrison is there so that will be good to catch up with him. If we were to get a victory against them that would be very special.”

Tonks will have been disappointed to miss out on the victory last Sunday with Halifax being another of his former employers. But he praised his team-mates for a professional display which resulted in their eighth success from 10 league games.

“We got the result so I am pleased for the lads; they stuck together and got the job done. At times we showed how good we were; we stuck to the game plan and came through in the end,” he added.

“Sunday was a good day for us, it was a pleasing game to watch and it was even better because it was my birthday and we beat my former club.

“I also want to give a mention to Rob Worrincy who scored a hat-trick, which will be special for him as it was against his former club too. If anyone deserves it then it is Rob.”

Meanwhile, second-rower Oliver Roberts has returned to his parent club Huddersfield Giants after his one month loan ended.
