SHEFFIELD Eagles have put together a six-game winning run but coach Mark Aston believes that but for a disrupted pre-season they would have gone one better.
Only defeat in the opening game at Halifax has denied the Eagles a 100 per cent start to the season.
Wintry weather forced the call off of their only pre-season game against Limoux in South West France and Aston says that had an impact.
“We were disappointed not to beat Halifax because if we had got the right preparation with the game in France we would have won that game as well,” he said.
Eagles ended Featherstone Rovers 100 per cent record this season with a 26-18 win at Don Valley on Thursday night. The performance won praise from Rovers’ coach and former Eagles’ star Daryl Powell.
“Sheffield are a great side, they put us under pressure and particularly at the start of the second half,” said Powell. “That’s something we didn’t do.”
It put the teams level with only points-scored difference keeping Rovers above the Eagles in the table.
