Sheffield Eagles were too strong and fast for an injury-hit York team as they extended their winning run to four games.

On their return to Bramall Lane the Eagles started fast and never relaxed their grip in a game where the referee’s whistle was heard far too often.

Dominic Brambani won the half-back battle against his former teammate, Simon Brown, with Eagles winger Vinny Finigan and centre Menzie Yere both scoring two tries.

A much-changed Eagles included Hillsborough teenager Connor Scott on the bench for his first senior game for 18 months. Winger Vinny Finigan and loose forward Joe Hirst made their first appearances of the season and there was recall for half-back Patch Walker and prop Liam Higgins.

York suffered a blow before the kick-off with former Eagles centre James Ford going off with an injury in the warm-up. Aaron Lyons came into the 17.

Eagles started strongly and pressure on the York line was rewarded with hooker Andrew Henderson going over from dummy half for his third try in as many games. Dominc Brambani added the goal.

Two tries in as many minutes put the Eagles in control. A penalty for crossing near the Eagles line gave them possession and from Brambani’s high kick Michael Knowles palmed the ball down for Finigan to go over.

Second row Duane Staugheir took Mitch Stringer’s pass to go in by the posts and Brambani added the goal.

York got back into the game with winger George Elliott finishing a cross-field passing move following a penalty.

Former Eagles hooker Jonny Presley claimed York’s second try from dummy half but in the final minute of the half Brambani kicked a long-range penalty to give the Eagles an 18-8 lead.

York lost captain second row Jason Golden less than two minutes after the restart with a shoulder injury.

Eagles almost extended their lead as Walker made the extra man in the line before passing for Finigan to claim his second try.

Centre Menzie Yere took a high Brambani kick to and the scrum-half added the goal.

York hit back with Presley claiming his second try from a Danny Nickas grubber kick and Tom Carr added the goal.

York’s injury problems mounted as Elliott was helped off.

A break by Misi Taulapapa gave full-back Quentin Laulu-Togagae a clear run to posts and Brambani added another goal.

Henderson’s short pass sent Yere in for his second score and centre Tom Armstrong raced in for the Eagles eighth, try with Brambani kicking seven goals.
