YORK will be glad that they don’t have to play Sheffield Eagles again this season.
The Eagles plundered eight tries as they made it four wins out of four in all competitions against the Knights.
The win was sealed with a burst of tries midway through the second half and even the sending off of prop Mitch Stringer couldn’t halt the Eagles charge.
Pat Smith came in at stand-off for Simon Brown for the Eagles and faced his younger brother, Ed, who was among the York subs. James Davey, on loan from Wakefield made his Eagles debut off the bench.
Eagles didn’t waste time, with Dominic Brambani weaving in to score under the posts after only two minutes. The scrum-half added the goal.
York came back with a couple of good sets and ex-Eagles centre James Ford swept through a gap for the try.
A 45-metre power break saw centre Menzie Yere cut though the York defence to push out the Eagles lead. Brambani added the goal.
Brett Turner went over from dummy half for York. Chris Thorman added the goal to narrow the lead to 12-10 at the break.
A minute after the restart Yere blasted over from Smith’s pass with Brambani adding the goal.
York were defending well but the gaps opened as the Eagles plundered three tries in six minutes with two for second-rower Michael Knowles and an 80-metre break from full-back Quentin Laulu-Togagae.
Eagles were reduced to 12 men on 64 minutes when Mitch stringer was shown a red card for a headbutt in a tackle. It didn’t halt the Eagles, with Laulu-Togagae going in at the corner.
In the final minute Yere went in for his hat-trick try.
Brambani finished with six goals from eight attempts.
