Sheffield Eagles coach Mark Aston is ready to balance the need for league points with his planning for the Challenge Cup game against Halifax.
He will recall on-loan prop forward Ben Gledhill who won’t be allowed to play in the cup for the Championship game against Dewsbury Rams tonight.
Aston had hoped to use the game at Don Valley, kick-off 7.30pm, to finalise the team for the Challenge Cup but has been forced to rethink.
“At Keighley we cruised, kept in second gear and didn’t challenge ourselves,” he said.
“There will be two or three dropped.
“I didn’t play Ben Gledhill at Keighley to get us ready for the Challenge Cup but that won’t be the case now. He will be in the 17. Joe Hirst and Duane Straugheir will be back.”
Aston has added young forward Connor Scott to the squad with Colton Roche doubtful with a knee injury and Liam Higgins’ comeback delayed by a calf strain.
The Eagles will be playing Dewsbury for the second time in three weeks, winning 30-16 when the teams met in the Challenge Cup.
