Sheffield Eagles will face unbeaten Halifax in an all-Yorkshire clash in the fifth round of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup.

Championship leaders Halifax are only one of two teams to have beaten the Eagles this season.

It rules out a big pay day against a Super League club but gives the Eagles the chance to make the quarter-finals for the first time since they won the Cup in 1998. “It’s tough but at this time in the competition you expect it to be tough,” said coach Mark Aston. “This puts two of the best teams outside the Super League against each other in the Cup.

“Beat Halifax and we will be in the quarter-final for the first time for the new Eagles - that’s something. It’s a cracking tie and we’re at home.”

The game must be played on the weekend of May 11-12. Venue to be announced.
