Injured Hirst could miss out

BACK row forward Joe Hirst is set to miss Sheffield Eagles final away game of the season at Barrow Raiders tonight.

The former Featherstone player, who has missed only one game this season, has a hamstring strain. “It’s not good, Joe’s got a tweak to his hamstring and it’s not responding as we had hoped,” said coach Mark Aston.

Prop Alex Rowe is ruled out for the rest of the season after breaking his arm at Hunslet and the doubts over Hirst are a major worry.

It is likely that 20-year-old Eddie Battye and GB student international Sam Scott will come into the squad for the Barrow game. Both have played only a handful of senior games.

A win or even a losing ‘bonus’ point at Craven Park (6.30pm) tonight will guarantee the Eagles place in the Championship play-offs.

Aston added: “Injuries will test the squad. After Barrow we’ve got three league games left at Bramall Lane and we want to come home with a win.”
