Winger Ryan Millar has signed a new three-year contract with Sheffield Eagles.

The 21-year-old shot to prominence at the end of last season with eye-catching performances against London Broncos in the Championship and Hull KR in the Super 8 Qualifiers, and looks set to help fill the void left by the departing Scott Turner and Misi Taulapapa.

Millar, who bagged f a brace on debut against the Broncos and a hat-trick against Rovers at Bramall Lane, is one of a host of youngsters set to be given a platform to perform in director of rugby Mark Aston’s new look Eagles next season.

“We have seen during his fleeting first-team performances that he can compete at this level, and under the full-time setup he is only going to get better,” said Aston.

“He really has an exciting future at this club.”

The Birmingham-born speedster is another successful graduate of the Eagles’ Academy system, and looks to have a major role to play. He becomes the second winger to agree fresh terms with the club, following the news that Rob Worrincy has committed himself for another year.

Eagles, who will kick off their 2016 campaign against Workington Town on Sunday February 7, are continuing to strengthen with a host of new recruits over the past month.

Adam Neal and George Tyson have arrived from Oldham, whilst St. Helens hooker Matty Fozard was confirmed as Aston’s third close season signing on Monday.

There appears to be a real emphasis on youth with Tyson, Millar and Fozard all 21 and under. Aston’s son Cory, also under 21, played a prominent role last season as Eagles continue to look to the long term future of the club.

“There is so much to work with here, and the environment of working 8am-1pm every day will bring these lads on,” added Aston.

“Challenging these guys to be the best they can be is something I have dreamed about; even though you get older you don’t lose the dream. I am as excited as anyone about the future.”
