SHEFFIELD Eagles’ boss Mark Aston has called on referees to prevent teams trying to slow the game down.

He fears spoiling tactics will be used to frustrate the open rugby that has taken Eagles to a six-game winning run.

The penalty count was 8-2 in Eagles’ favour in the win over Featherstone but Aston says referee Gareth Hewer could have been tougher. “It could have been twice as many because there was messing about and slowing it down” he said. “The referee didn’t control the speed of the game. We want to entertain people and yet there’s hands in, knees in and all the little things that are cheats and that’s frustrating but at least we won.”
