Sheffield Eagles booked their place in a second quarter-final in 10 days with an 11-try blitz of Barrow Raiders.

The Eagles will meet London Broncos in the last eight of the Challenge Cup and they have now added a place in the draw for the last eight of the Northern Rail trophy.

Eagles’ coach Mark Aston praised his team’s desire and the hunger, and added: “When we get the momentum we take some stopping. The start of the game was outstanding and ripped them to bits.”

Three tries in the opening 10 minutes gave the Eagles a stranglehold on the game. Joe Hirst and Tom Armstrong sent fullback Quentin Laulu-Togagae under the posts after only 40 seconds.

Back rower Duane Straugheir dived to touch down a Patch Walker diagonal kick and Dominic Brambani set up the third try with a break through the middle before sending centre Menzi Yere over.

The scum-half kicked all three goals.

Yere turned defender to haul down Dean McGilvary five metres from the line.

Former Barrow second rower Michael Knowles picked up a loose ball and scooted through to touch down to push out the lead.

Eagles went in 24-0 ahead and Barrow made sure there was no repeat of the game’s opening try rush in the first 10 minutes following the restart.

It was only a respite as Yere’s perfectly timed angled run on to Walker’s pass gave the PNG star try 20 for the season.

Matt Garside’s side-step took him under the posts with Tom Armstrong’s pass sending Laulu-Togagae to the same destination for his second try.

Garside claimed a second try and then gave loose forward Joe Hirst a clear run to send the Eagles past the 50 points.

Barrow got two late tries from Aaron Low with Kurt Haggerty kicking a goal.

Hooker Andrew Henderson and Hirst finished the scoring with Brambani kicking ten goals.
