Rovers seek sales surge

DONCASTER Rovers chairman John Ryan is hoping that the publication of the Championship fixtures this week will spark off renewed interest in season tlckets.

"It has always given season-ticket sales a boost in the past when the fixtures come out and I see no reason why it shouldn't be the same this time around," said Ryan.

"With Scunthorpe being promoted from League One, and Sheffield United losing in the play-of final, we've got five local derbies next season.

"We've also got the likes of Newcastle, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion visiting the Keepmoat Stadium next season, so there is a lot to look forward to.

"We've sold just over 6,000 season tickets, but I hope that we can it back up to 8,000 by the end of the summer."

Ryan knows that a couple of new signings would help boost sales.

"Manager Sean O'Driscoll is looking all the time and has been to places like Poland during the close season looking at players but there is nothing concrete at the moment," he said.

Rovers No 2 Richard O'Kelly doesn't expect much movement until early next month.

"Players are paid until the end of June so why recruit them now and add them to your wage bill at this moment in time?" he questioned.

O'Kelly says that Rovers have done their homework and are poised to spring into action when the transfer activity finally kicks off.

"You monitor players that you are interested in 12 months of the year," said O'Kelly.

"You make a list of players of players who you think have got something that could add something to your squad. You are always cross-referencing and finding out about their personality.."

O'Kelly said that he couldn't put a number on the possible new faces because much was dependent on whether they would be able to hang on to the likes of skipper Brian Stock, fellow midfielder Richie Wellens and defender Matt Mills - all of whom have attracted interest from other clubs in recent weeks.
