Patch Walker enjoyed his trip back to former club Dewsbury Rams leading a second-half charge to take Sheffield Eagles to a 28-12 win.

Walker had a big say in the two tries that gave the Eagles the lead and finished off the revival with a touchdown and kicked four goals.

The “double” over Dewsbury lifted Mark Aston’s team above the Rams into fifth place in the Championship.

“We’re starting to get there, our attitude went through the roof today,” said Aston. “Dewsbury is a tough place to come and the boys deserve the pats on the back. Dewsbury didn’t get a (losing) bonus point which is important and we’re sneaking up the league.”

On the down side prop BenJanes another of the former Dewsbury players in the Eagles 17, could be out for several weeks with a broken thumb.

Rams took an early lead through centre Shane Grady but Walker forced an error and on the back of 20-metre break by Will Hope and a penalty Eagles switched the play before Matt Garside sent in Taulapapa at the corner. Walker added the goal.

The narrow lead was tested as the Rams helped by handling errors had more of the possession before the Eagles swept back with a passing move ending in winger Scott Turner forcing an error on the Rams line before picking up the loose ball to cross for a 10-4 lead at half-time.

Turner’s last-ditch tackle forced Austin Buchanan into touch near the corner after the restart but the winger wasn’t denied for long and his try and Kieran Hyde’s goal put Dewsbury level.

Mitch Stringer and Stephen Nash went on report after a clash with the Rams awarded a penalty which Hyde kicked to take back the lead.

Eagles earned a couple of kickable penalties but opted to run the ball and were rewarded with Taulapapa taking a high cross field kick from Walker for his second try.

Three minutes later Walker, who was back at stand-off after starting at loose-forward, provided a short pass for Menzie Yere to crash over and add the goal to leave the Rams needing two scores.

Yere and Turner came close to increasing the lead but the final points went to Walker.

Yere forced an error in front of the posts and Walker picked up to touch down before adding the goal and shortly after a penalty.
