Pegler's first win

PEGLER picked up their first Solly Sports Doncaster & District Cricket League Section A win of the season when beating fellow strugglers Adwck-le-Street seconds by one wicket.

Adwick struggled against a 5-3 six-over spell by Danny Tingay and were all out for 112 after being put in. Pegler sneaked home in the 37th over.

Hampole & Skelbrooke's title hopes suffered a setback when going down to a 58-run defeat away to top-four rivals Brookhouse.

Three-wicket hauls by Karl Chittenden and Michael McGuckin helped restrict Brookhouse to a modest 140 all out, but no-one caught the eye in Hampole's reply of 82 all out.

Whiston Meths, who have two games in hand, closed to within nine points of Hampole when beating Bawtry seconds by 87 runs.

Junior Daniel Lovell (3-53) was the pick of the Bawtry attack in Meths' 210-8.

A 4-5 spell by junior Gavin Bullimore helped put the skids under Bawtry (123 all out) when they replied. No 5 Joe McCallum top-scored with 22.

Fenwick remain rooted to the foot of the table after suffering a losing draw at Grimethorpe seconds.

Jeff Morton (4-42) and Shaun Rockcliffe (4-56) combined to restrict the home side to 179-9.

Fenwick, for whom opener Phil Loversuch (26) top-scored, were 104-6 in reply.

Bottom club Eden Grove seconds are still looking for their first Section B win in six starts after going down by two wickets at home to Wentworth.

Opener Lee Chip-Smith (39) was the mainstay of Grove's 131-9. Wentworth defied a 7-32 spell by Umair Alam to reach a match-winning 132-8.

Finningley & Blaxton missed out on top spot after being held to a winning draw by Scholes seconds.

Put into bat, Finningley made 229-6 with opener Mark Harrison, whose 56 featured nine fours, and No 5 Richard Attenborough, whose unbeaten 83 included six fours and three sixes, proving the bulk of the runs.

Scholes were 162-5 in reply.

Parklands seconds picked up only their second win in seven starts when beating Bawtry thirds by two wickets.

Bawty lost their way after opener Matt Lucas (46) and No 3 James Walton (52) had given them a flying start following the introduction of Craig Taylor (6-16), and were all out for 156.

Parklands' winning reply of 157-8, owed much to an unbeaten 81 by No 4 Taylor. Tony Walton took 4-25 in a tidy 12-over spell.

Denaby & Cadeby seconds retained top spot in Section C when beating Whiston Meths by 121 runs.

Denaby won the toss and elected to bat, making an impressive 225-2 on the back of a massive 164-run second-wicket partnership between opener Neil Spruce (103 not out) and No 3 Daniel Smith (95).

Meths were 104 all out in reply – Spruce capping an excellent showing with a 4-16 haul.

Rossington Main seconds kept the pressure on the leaders with a 72-run win over lowly Brodsworth thirds.

Brodsworth, who have now lost all seven league games, decided to bowl after winning the toss.

The ploy backfired as Main, for whom openers Roy Groves (30) and No 3 Liam Flynn (53) both impressed, made 237-8.

No 6 Richard Brown (41) and No 9 Jonathan Hood (30) shared the Adwick batting honours in their 161-9. Junior Jack Calver bagged 3-39.

A 4-8 spell by Hood helped put the skids under Pegler (70 all out) when the home side replied.

Hatfield Main seconds beat Brookhouse seconds by five wickets.

Brookhouse had no answer to a 7-14 spell by Mel Bellamy and were all out for 64. No 6 Andy Stuart (26 not out), steadied Main’s nerves after early losses.
