O'Kelly spies on cup foes
DONCASTER Rovers took advantage of the fact that they were without a midweek fixture to mount a spying mission on FA Cup opponents Brentford last night.
Rovers No 2 Richard O'Kelly travelled down to Griffin Park to take in the Bees League One clash against Colchester, which they won 1-0.
Said O'Kelly: "As is happens, because players we've been watching have played against Brentford - we might even have been watching a Brentford player - during the international break, we have seen a fair bit about them.
"They are a young side and are very vibrant and enthusiastic and they've got good organisation."
"They were promoted last season and are holding their own in League One. They are in the third round on merit and they'll be a tough nut to crack."
O'Kelly will be at the Keepmoat Stadium tonight, along with manager Sean O'Driscoll, to watch the club's FA Youth Cup third round tie against Newcastle (7pm).
"The boys are quite excited, as they should be, about playing in the FA Youth Cup and playing against Newcastle makes it even better," said O'Kelly.
"Newcastle is a Premier League set-up. They have brought some good players through over the years and have spent an awful lot of money and it will be a good test for the boys.
"When we are at home on a Saturday, and the youth team is at home in the morning, we always go to see them play, so we've seen quite a bit of them.
"The lads also occasionally come and train with the first-team squad.
"What we'll be looking for tonight as much as their ability is to see how they cope with a little bit of pressure.
"It will be the first time that the first-year lads will have played at the Keepmoat Stadium so it will be a good experience for them.
"Hopefully there will be a few people down there to cheer them on."
Only the West Stand will be in use and admission is 3 adults and 1 concessions.
