WHAT a great result at the weekend with us knocking Oldham over 30-0 in our Championship One game at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The most pleasing thing for me was the big fat zero.
The game was not as easy as the score-line would suggest, as it was end to end stuff for the first 30 minutes. But the lads showed great tenacity and grit not to let Oldham score.
I also thought we played some really good attacking rugby at times, so well done to all the lads and back-room team.
As regular readers of this column will be aware, we dedicated this game to soldier Liam Maughan whose whole family, including his little lad Jayden, was in attendance.
I’m sure we did Liam, killed whilst serving in Afghanistan, and his family proud, We raised £600 for the Three Rifles charity, which is a great effort for a club like ours, so thank you to everyone who contributed.
We have no game this weekend so head coach Tony Miller has rewarded the players for their great performance with a week off from training to freshen up as we are getting towards the business end of the season.
We need to start climbing the table which I’m sure we will. Like I have always said, it is not how you start the season but how you finish and I’m sure come the end of the campaign, we will be in the mix.
Tables for the Christchurch Earthquake appeal are selling really well, so if anyone wants to book a place for the dinner (£35) on June 22nd at the Keepmoat Stadium, please get in touch with the club on 01302 765888. It will be a great night and there will be a chance to mix with some Super League stars.
