New half-back pairing aim to shine in friendly

SHEFFIELD Eagles new playmaking duo get a last chance of match action before the new season starts in the warm-up game at Doncaster.

Building an understanding between half-back Simon Brown and Dominic Brambani is key to coach Mark Aston’s plans.

The pair linked up for the first time in the friendly at Super League club Wakefield Wildcats and Aston sees Sunday’s game at the Keepmoat as another step in cementing the partnership.

“Dom and Simon had only had half a dozen sessions together before Wakefield and we’d only been out on a field a few times. The more they play together the better. We could see that they are compatible,” he said.

Brambani has returned to the Eagles after three seasons away and marked his second debut with a try from a Brown chip kick at Wakefield.

The pair share a great kicking game and Aston believes once Brambani settles into the Eagles mode of play he will make a consistent impact.

“We have work to do on settling Dom down to the structures and systems I want to play,” he said. “Dom’s been playing different systems for the past three years.

“The more he trains and plays with us the better he will become and without a shadow of a doubt with Dom and Simon we will have one of the best kicking games in the Championship.”

Aston will take a big squad to the Keepmoat including most of his new signings and is considering including some young reserves who have been training with the senior squad.

The Eagles coach has Samoan duo Misi Taulapapa and Quentin Laulu-Togagae plus Papua New Guinea star Menzie Yere and Joe Hirst available for selection again.
