New face adds Premiership touch to Knights

NEW Doncaster Knights fitness coach Scott Pearson put the Championship club's players through their paces at Castle Park yesterday on their first day of pre-season training.

"Having Scott on board means that we are running similar fitness and strength programmes to the ones run in the Premiership and I am confident this will have a positive effect," said director of rugby Lynn Howells.

Apart from Tongan internationals Hudson Tonga'Uiha and Toma Toke - who are expecting a call-up to play for the Pacific Islanders - everyone else but injured back-rower Chris Planchant reported back.

The club announced yesterday that scrum-half Jamie Albinson had been released.

Said Howells: "Jamie had some great games for us last season, including scoring a try away at Moseley at the death to secure the win.

"But since his knee injury last year Jamie hasn't made it back into the squad."

Doncaster Phoenix have boosted their squad ahead of their 2009-10 Yorkshire League campaign by capturing former Doncaster star James Mortimore.

The strong-running utility came through Doncaster's renowned junior section to win North of England honours before making his debut for the senior club when just 18.
