Miller targets promotion push for Dons

DONS boss Tony Miller claims the club is much better placed going into the 2011 season, which kicks-off early next month, than this time last year.

"We were still scratching around for players from anywhere trying to put together a squad," Miller told The Star.

"This time around we've been able to do things the right way. We've kept all but one - Rob Lunt, who is going to live in Australia this week - and we've been able to target players we wanted to bring in.

"We've now got a squad of players who are committed to the club and who have trained regularly during the close season.

"We struggled at the start of last season but we got better as the season progressed as we replaced the weaker players with better ones.

If we can carry on from where we left off last season then we are going to be in the top four and pushing for promotion.

"It's been a tough few years and I think everyone associated with the club deserve a bit of success built on solid foundations and not boom and bust as in the past.

"I think everything is in place for this year to kick on and do well without spending money we haven't got.

"We've got one of the best squad of players I've been associated with; everyone gets on well and it is really good to be around the place at the moment."

Miller will get his first look at his new squad in Sunday's attractive pre-season friendly against Super League giants, Hull FC at the Keepmoat Stadium (3pm).

Hull, who will also be playing their first warm-up game, will be fielding a strong side.
