Martis set for recall
DEFENDER Shelton Martis is set to return to Doncaster Rovers' starting line-up in tonight's Championship encounter at Peterborough.
"We could probably have got Shelton back quicker but we didn't really want to take a risk, with it being a hamstring," said Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll.
"Having Elliott (Ward) on loan for a month gave Shelton the chance recover and to get a little bit fitter than he was when he first came here, so it has worked out really well.
"We'd like to have kept Elliott but you have to balance the books.
"It has been difficult to having to chop and change at centre-back but I think we've done really well with it.
"Jimmy 0'Connor has come in and done really well as a centre-back and having someone who is quick, and who can read the game, has helped. It has made it easier for centre-backs to come in."
Rovers will be looking to stretch their unbeaten run to five games tonight - which would be their best sequence of the season - against a side they beat 3-1 at home earlier in the season.
The Posh have parted with two managers since then, including Duncan Ferguson - the man who led them to successive promotions.
Jim Gannon is the man currently at the helm and he hit the headlines recently by telling his players they would be relegated back to League One.
Peterborough's prospects looked bleak, but three wins in their last five games have raised supporters' hopes.
But Gannon still insists that his side, eight points adrift of fourth-bottom Sheffield Wednesday, have given themselves too much to do to reach the 52 point mark which he believes will spell safety.
"If I were in Jim's position I would have done exactly the same," said O'Driscoll.
"He said what they were all thinking. As soon as you get things out in the open it brings a freshness to everything.
"It's still a tall order to get out of the situation they are in, but they are going about it the right way.
"The last two games we've seen them play they've been excellent.
"It is not like they have scraped a win - they've been worth their six points.
"I think that they've changed since we last played them in a sense; it's a more fluent 4-3-3.
"For it to work everybody has got to work hard, especially the front three.
"They inter-change and they are all prepared to do a shift defensively.
"They've always had that ability to score goals."
Striker Lewis Guy, who has made only one Championship start this season, has joined Oldham on a month's loan.
Rovers have confirmed that leading scorer Billy Sharp, as was the case when the two sides met at Bramall Lane earlier in the season, will not play against parent club Sheffield United in Saturday's derby.
