Main men keep chasing leaders hard
BRODSWORTH Main and Rossington Main recorded their third successive win of 2010 in the All Saints Indoor Cricket League to keep the pressure on runaway leaders Hatfield Town.
Brodsworth batted first in their match with Eden Grove posting 108 for 4. There was steady batting from Richard Miller (23), Jon Robinson (35 not out) and a return to action from Alec Elliott with 20.
In reply, Grove made a steady start but were soon behind the run rate with only Umar Alam (32 not out) reaching double figures as they fell 27 short of their target
Rossington beat rivals Warmsworth to take second place from them as they ended on 92 for 3. Michael Richardson topscored with 30 not out and Alex Rowlands hit 29.
After the early setback of losing Andy Haywood in the first over for a duck, Liam Marshall (21) tried to rescue the innings. But it was to no avail, despite a late flurry of 27 runs from Mark Knight.
A stunning return catch by Roy Nelson was one of his wickets as he claimed 2 for 9.
Hatfield Town kept up their winning sequence against a useful Fishlake side with Nick Page in fine form with the bat scoring 36 not out. There was also a quickfire 19 from John Severn. Replying to their 90 for 4, Fishlake suffered a disastrous first over with danger man Stuart Coleman being brilliantly caught by Nick Page for a single off the accurate bowling of John Severn.
A second wicket also fell to put the Lakers on the back foot from which they never recovered and they were bowled out for a disappointing 46. Severn finished with 2 for 11.
Adwick-le-Street returned to action with a win over luckless Hatfield Main.
Batting first, Main scored 77 for 5 with Ryan Hatton (19), Adam Berriman (14) and Mel Bellamy (13 not out).
Adwick passed the target with ease as Declan Muldowney powered his way to 26 not out and was well supported by young Chris Dean, who hit 21 on his debut in the league. Main stalwart Mel Bellamy claimed 2 for 19.
Barnby Dun snatched a last-ball win over Brookhouse.
Brookhouse struggled to find the form of previous weeks and could only total 64 all out with four of their batsman getting a start but failing to build a score as Dun's Phil Decent took 2 for 14.
Barnby Dun paced their assault to perfection as Scot Rich hit 25 retired not out, leaving Decent to hit the winning run to cap a nail-biting finish.
