Long ride for Harworth club

MEMBERS of Harworth and District Cycling Club turned out in their numbers for the Easter Sunday ride.

It proved to be most well attended gathering of the year with 18 riders setting out from the Scrooby Road sports pavilion.

Sudbrooke on the northeastern side of Lincoln was chosen as the destination. The group rode along the A 631 from Bawtry to Gainsborough taking in the stiff climb up to Gringley-on-the-Hill that warmed up the legs on what was a chilly morning.

It was then over the River Trent at Gainsborough and south to Lee, Willingham-by-Stow and then through the quite Lincolnshire Wold villages of Fillingham, Ingham, Hackthorn, Dunholme and onto Sudbrooke.

The trip turned out to be the longest ride undertaken so far this year with the riders recording a round trip of 75 miles. Several riders had clocked well over 80 miles or more when their ride to and from the club headquarters was taken into account.

Club captain Andy Rodgers congratulated all the riders on their performance. The long training ride will hopefully pay dividends when club members compete in forthcoming events during the early season.
