LOAN players Kyle Wood and Jamie Cording will play their first games for Sheffield Eagles against Whitehaven on Sunday (3pm.)
The pair, signed on dual registration deals from Huddersfield Giants, will play in the Northern Rail Cup clash at Don Valley Stadium.
Coach Mark Aston said: “Woody will play half-back and Jamie will play centre or second row. It’s a bonus for us because they have been training full-time and have had plenty of hit-outs in the pre-season friendlies for Huddersfield.”
Aston is hoping he can keep Wood and Cording for a long spell as UK visa hold-ups continue to delay the arrival of Samoan internationals Misi Taulapapa and Quentin Laulu-Togagae. The pair trained with the Eagles this week and Wood says returning to Don Valley brought back memories.
“It’s a bit of deja vu” said Wood who sees success with the Eagles as boosting his chances of a Giant’s first team call up. “With dual registration it’s quite hard training at Huddersfield and then having to walk into another team and start playing but after a few games you really get back into the way the team plays.
“It’s about getting games here, doing well and getting a chance at Huddersfield.”
