Knights look to serve up entertaining fayre

DONCASTER Knights will be looking to serve up more entertaining rugby at Castle Park next season.

So pledged director of rugby, Lynn Howells, this week as he continued to put together a new squad.

"We adopted three different styles of play last season because we faced three different competitions - the league, play-offs and the British & Irish Cup," Howells told The Star. "We had to change our style of play going into the play-offs and we did.

"We played some very good rugby and I think that is the way that we have to move forward.

"We will be looking to play that quality of rugby next season and that being the case it then becomes a question of who you recruit to play that sort of rugby.

"We have to entertain the supporters. It was difficult for them at the start of last season when we had to play a certain way because of all the injuries that we had.

"Because of all the injuries we lost our first six league games which meant that we had to play catch-up rugby for most of the season to try and make the play-offs.

"It wasn't always pretty to watch, but it was just a matter of grinding out results to try and finish in the top eight.

"Hopefully we won't make such a bad start next season and there won't be the same amount of pressure on the players and they'll be able to relax more and hopefully play more rugby which is what the people who pay good money to watch us want to see.

"They want to be entertained and that is what we'll be looking to try and serve up on a regular basis.

"Of course, you have to take into account the opposition and the weather conditions when you start to plan your tactics because we still want to win games and be successful.

"But I am an advocate of entertaining rugby and that will become a priority."
