Kesik set to face old club

THE Dons will be boosted by the return of former Sheffield Eagles’ favourite Kyle Kesik in Sunday’s pre-season clash against their South Yorkshire rivals at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Kesik missed the club’s impressive 26-12 win over Hunslet in their first warm up game last Sunday due to a one-match suspension carried over from last season.

Prop Mark Castle is set to make his debut the second time around after rejoining the Championship One club after playing amateur rugby with Castleford side Fryston.

The strong-running forward moved to Leigh several years ago after playing contracts were cancelled mid-season due to a financial crisis which led to the Dons going into administration.

Former skipper Craig Lawton could face a late fitness test on a neck injury sustained in training. The long-serving back-rower hasn’t played since suffering a back injury against London Skolars midway through last season.

“Craig’s got over that and had been training well prior to picking up the injury,” said Dons’ boss Tony Miller.

“We’ll see how he is in training tonight but if there is any doubt we’ll not risk him.”

Miller also has a doubt about new signing Andy Townend, who took a knock in Sunday’s game.

The club are holding a ‘meet the players’ evening at Doncaster Dome on Friday February 3. Miller and his coaching staff will be joined by the Dons new-look squad who will be available to chat to, sign autographs and pose for photographs.

The evening will include an auction to raise funds for the club, and there will be two guest speakers - club doctor Martin Coleman and former Dons’ favourite Stewart Piper.
