Forest back foR £2m mills

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies is poised to make an improved £2 million bid for Rovers defender Matt Mills this week.

Reports suggest that Davies is prepared to meet Rovers' asking price for 22-year-old Mills after having a 1.5m offer rejected last month.

Forest have already captured Bristol City striker Dele Adebola on a free trabsfer and will step up their bid to sign Preston's Paul McKenna.

Meanwhile, Rovers star Mark Wilson is refusing to complain about having to report back for three days' training during the close season.

"When you have nine weeks off you need a little spell when you can do something to keep yourself fit and be tested to see how you are doing," said the midfielder.

Not that Wilson, often described by manager Sean O'Driscoll as the "ultimate professional" has simply been putting his feet up since the end of the season.

"It is important that you rest and recharge your batteries at the end of a hard season," said Wilson.

"I went away early and enjoyed a two-week break, but we were all given a personal schedule to follow and since then I've been doing a bit of something most days.

"I'll have a short break with the family again before we report back for pre-season training on July 6, but this time it will be a bit of a working holiday.

"It is in my nature now. Wwhen I was younger it wasn't. I know now the benefits of keeping yourself fit during the close season.

"I'll be stepping it up from mid-June onwards because you have got to come back ready to go these days. You have be almost as fit as when you were at the end of last season.

"We've got our first pre-season friendly two days later and, although it might be only against a local Northern Counties East League team, you don't want to embarrass yourself. "

Wilson has welcomed news that the Rovers squad will be spending four days in a training camp in Cumbria ahead of the game against Barrow on July 18.

"I enjoy going to training camps," said Wilson. They are hard work but it helps you to bond as a team and it helps any newcomers to settle in.

"It is also good for everyone to get away for a few days."
