SHEFFIELD Eagles had to leave three of their Super League loan players behind when they left for Toulouse Olympique.
Bradford Bulls’ winger Vinny Finigan was the only dual registration player in the squad that took the flight to France today.
Huddersfield Giants have recalled half-back Kyle Wood and forward Jamie Cording and centre Jason Crookes keeps his place in the Bulls’ first team squad.
Half-back or back row forward Dane McDonald also failed a fitness test on a shoulder injury.
“It means all hands on deck but we’ve had plenty of lads who have been pushing for their chance in the reserves” said Aston. “When people drop out it’s a chance to have a look at some of our other players.”
With Cording dropping out Aston is taking 16 of the team that beat Dewsbury Rams and has added hooker Pat Smith plus forwards Eddie Battye and Sam Scott.
Forward Peter Green and winger Danny Mills who suffered minor injuries in the Dewsbury game are in the squad and are expected to be fit. Aston has been looking forward to having the squad together for a few days. “We put a lot of emphasis on being a ‘team’ but time together is limited,” said Aston.
“It’s great to have time together. The most important thing is to get the result and then it’ll be a job well done. It’s an opportunity to realign ourselves and focus on what we want from the rest of the season.”
