Dons boss looks to five new faces
DONCASTER Rugby League Club could have as many as five new faces at training tonight.
"I'm hoping to bring in young Huddersfield full-back Tommy Griffiths," said Dons boss Tony Miller.
"Former Dons chairman Craig Harrison is his agent and to be fair to him he's not a bad judge of a player.
"I'm also hoping to bring in Featherstone stand-off Matt Handforth, who is Paul's younger brother.
"He has dropped down the pecking order since they signed Kyle Briggs from us and he's become a bit disillusioned.
"Featherstone were due to speak to him last night and I plan to ring him this morning."
Miller, who has spoken to a prop from a Leeds-based amateur side, has also set his sights on young Eagles hooker Kyle Keswick.
"He played against our Under-21s on Saturday and had a good game," said Miller.
"I've spoken to Kyle and he definitely want to come and Eagles coach Mark Aston said he would let him come and was going to speak to him tonight."
The Dons will be without full-back Shaun Leaf (concussion) and trialist Tongan centre 'Richard' Tafa (broken hand), who both picked up knocks in Sunday's game against Sheffield Eagles, at Widnes on Saturday.
But both back-rowers Mark McKinley and Steve Hall, who made their professional debuts the week before, will be available again this weekend.
The Rugby Football League pledged their support in the Dons' battle for survival.
"We certainly don't want them dropping out of the league at the end of the season," said a RFL spokesman yesterday.
"We are liasing with the administrator and the club on a regular basis, but there has been no formal bid to take over the club.
He denied speculation that the RFL, who have met the 'Martin Winter' consortium, had issues with their interest.
"We've got an open mind," he said. "We want what is best for the club."
